Bouncing off of that last blog entry, I was unsure on the topic of my critical review, so just to be sure that I make the right decision, I did a proposal for 'The Significance of Video Game Art and the influences it has' as a topic.
Proposal
For this critical review, I am going to be exploring the ins and outs of video game art, delving deep into popular video games that succeeded and the art behind it and core identity of those games. When designing a video game, you have the idea, the script outline and then comes the art-- which can entirely influence the outcome and success of the game.
I have multiple video game concept art books that showcase character designs, world-building, prop design and marketing with titles from Overwatch, Dragon Age, other NaughtyDog titles. Seeing all that art makes me think, these designs were created by artists, but they all fit under one umbrella of a story. So, how is it stylised to fit that world? What/Who decides and influences the identity of the game?
To help me discover more about this, I will be exploring the documentary behind 'The Last of Us', as well as the Riot Games documentary series of video game art; and also looking deeper into Stardew Valley which was made by one person, seeing what it took for him to create it. All this, with a one focus in mind, the significance of video game art.
Mood Board

Reflection
After writing up my proposal and creating a mood-board to get me in the right frame of mind, I really love this idea-- however, it is easy for me to say that since I love video game art. I think I will leave it up to my tutor and fellow students, and friends and family to help me decide which Critical Review has a strong base. I will also wait until how I did with my last critical review to see if going with what I love is what is best...
