Brief

For this exercise, I had to take a word (in this instance I chose bed) and look it up in the Thesaurus for alternative words. With that alternative words I should repeat the same process until I get around 20-30 words. Once I have my words/poem, I should do a little drawing for each word and create a sequence with the words and imagery. Finally, after that, I have to produce one big image that combines every word, then I should reflect.

Reflection

With this exercise I tried my best to be a little creative instead of just sticking to the inital word meaning, I tried to be characterful with the sketches and not working too hard on making it perfect.

When it came to the bigger drawing, I wanted to think of creative ways I could combine all of these together all while making sense. I thought of acting and performing and came up with using a set as a great place to tie everything together since it'll easily make sense because anything could be happening.

I started on the far right side of the page, lightly sketching the easy words first such as beauty, elegance, art, assistant (wearing flair trousers) in a lounge. From there I started adding little details of other words that may be harder to see, like block (on the side table) cleverness (paper on couch), ingot (in the painting), and someone being active (running behind the couch out of the fire exit.

Working towards the middle, I wanted a long table at the bottom to show craft, slice, bite and performing (on laptop); with scare and shock in the characters. Above them is an actor, acting/practicing and a small painting showing a bed- something small just it's there; in the far left corner is a director looking at a screen showing an "operation (operating)"/"acting" which then above them is a setting of a bar with an added bit of fun of a dummy lying on the ground.

After that I added a few little touches, a decorative tree (decoration) with ornaments on them, a fire exit with an alert sign and a big light.

The outcome is a huge set of characters, recording for a film while a celebrity is elegantly getting their painting down in the lounge area.

Evaluation

This exercise was so much fun to do, I didn't really rely on references and just had fun and also to see how much I've improved without using references. I am very surprised with the outcome and feel like this is a very narrative drawing, and if it was a little bit more crowded it could be used as a 'Where's Wally' situation.

Using words that assistorate from another is a really fun way of generating ideas, I felt like I could have come up with more from there and I would like to try this again in the future for idea generation for illustrations.

To be critical, the perspective isn't very good and the people aren't to proportions, however, as a fun illustration I'm not too upset with it.
