Working off of the previous research task, I had to create thumbnails for The Batsford Prize Competition that went with the theme 'Connections'.

At first I created small thought sketches and writings, just something small before I got started and I created a board for source material, or my mood board.

Mood Board

Small thoughts

I usually don't use writing for exploration, just drawing, but I felt the need to since I want to take these projects more seriously and its really interesting to see how my thoughts could flow out my head.

Thumbnails

I ended up creating eight thumbnails since I was really trying to avoid sticking to the small exploration of idea; I was trying to capture feelings of romance but in others I was trying to capture the derealization of 'connection' that the world has become-- were so connected through the internet that it begs the question, is it real connection?

Reflection

For this exercise, I had to create thumbnails for a competition, and I was really into this idea and I was constantly thinking about a variety of different topic I could explore-- usually I stick with one idea and struggle to move from it. But this task was to move away from that train of thought that seems to always happen when coming up with projects.

If I was to look at these thumbnails and decide how I could take them further into a real project, I would be compelled to experiment with different media if I went down the technology connection route-- a collaboration of medias that either clash against each other or bounce off each other.

Or get comfortable and use acrylic or watercolour, who knows... hehehe.

The thumbnails are intended for a potential front cover for a book, I did mention before that I wanted to explore book covers like I did in my first year of this course; revisiting book covers is something that I was keen to approaching again.
